**Job Summary** Applies integrated technical judgment--which requires using the scientific method to recognize and formulate problems, to collect data through observation and experimentation, and to formulate and test hypotheses-­ to anticipate, innovate, and deliver solutions to Sandia National Laboratories missions. Roots the work in the fundamentals of science and engineering while applying a deep understanding of engineering and scientific principles. Creates and applies scientific theories and laws and engineering methods used within scientific and engineering disciplines to develop or demonstrate new designs, concepts, materials, machines, products, processes, or systems. Uses physical and computational simulation, analysis, and evaluation as inherent activities of development. Plans, conducts, and executes Sandia's science and engineering programs within the spectrum of fundamental research, development, or demonstration. Researches, designs, and tests new electrical or electromagnetic components, equipment, systems, and networks using the technology of electricity, especially equipment for power generation and distribution or for motor control. Designs electrical equipment, controls, components, systems, and products. Assesses capabilities of existing electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Develops inspection and test procedures for components and systems.



**Job Specifications** We are seeking a R&D Electrical Engineer to support the Surety Electronics and Software Department

{Organization 2244), which is responsible for design, development, fielding and support of electronic subsystems that manage the Permissive Action link for the nation's nuclear deterrent. Personnel within

_2244_ play key roles in development, maturation, and deployment of advanced technologies for next generation weapon systems. The department specializes in complex analog/digital design and EMI/EMR/TEMPEST design and for next-generation weapon systems. The selected individual will be responsible for all aspects of component engineering including delivery for integration into a sub­-assembly as part of the Code Management System. Some travel is required.



**Knowledge, Skills, Ability** Advanced technical degree or significant equivalent experience. Technical knowledge and competencies appropriate to the position. Thorough knowledge of and applied experience with scientific and engineering methods and with the discipline's standards for the ethical conduct of research. Thorough knowledge of and experience with designing, planning, and executing research, design, and development projects. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with implementing Sandia policies affecting research, design, and development activities, projects, or initiatives. Demonstrated ability to team across disciplines.



**Minimum Qualifications (Required)** Advanced degree {Masters or PhD) in engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience; Electronics hardware design experience {digital or analog); Current and active DOE Q-level security clearance with ability to acquire Sigma 15.
