**About the Business Line**
We provide professional services in areas such as aviation, transit, freight rail, highways and bridges, planning, and ports and marine. Our global network of top-tier specialists delivers comprehensive services over the full life cycle of a project to benefit clients in government and private industries.
Our Transportation team currently have a vacancy in office in Glasgow for a Electrical Engineer with experience of working on Network Rail’s infrastructure or similar networks.
AECOM are currently expanding their already substantial rail engineering team in Glasgow following several major project wins. The successful candidate will be working towards professional qualification with solid post graduate experience. You will have proven design experience in rail engineering, specifically in station or depot building services, or railway systems, and in delivering projects to client’s satisfaction at the appropriate standard, ensuring accuracy of drawings and calculations, ensuring designs are economic and appropriate and that the relevant codes and standards are complied with. You will have strong business development and client relationships skills and the ability to develop and manage the work of others. You will also have the technical ability and knowledge and competence to guide and teach others.
The team provides design, assessment, survey/inspection, construction support and management services on a wide range of rail projects. The team is involved in projects in the UK, Europe and the Middle East with a variety of clients. Our services offered to our clients include feasibility studies, scheme designs and detailed designs. Our clients are from the private and public sector and include HS2, Network Rail, London Underground, TFL, Nexus, TfGM, SYPTE, Centro and Croydon Tramlink, as well as various Tier 1 contractors.
Our current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international Rail infrastructure projects. The team provides design, assessment, inspection, construction support and management services on a wide range of rail projects.
Major Rail projects currently under production by staff include:
The Aberdeen to Inverness upgrade includes the double-tracking of 16 miles of line and associated major infrastructure works on the outskirts of Aberdeen, remodelling of Forres station area including a new station, station building and a new overbridge and associated road alignment as a replacement to the existing level crossing which will be closed, also included are extensions to the platforms at Insch and Elgin stations with associated track alignment works. The project will also include upgrades to signalling systems along the route and the installation of infrastructure to allow new stations to be built at Dalcross and Kintore.
Project duration are 4 years for Phase 1, Phase 2 runs for a further 4 – 6 years.
The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the Job/ Project Accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standards.
+ Receive brief from CRE / Senior Engineer.
+ Undertake site survey in conduction with other engineers to ascertain existing asset condition.
+ Contribute to design development, design risk and mitigation and value engineering
+ Develop design for CRE / Senior Engineer approval.
+ Attend design team meetings as appropriate.
+ Obtain design information from sub-consultants/equipment suppliers.
+ Produce detailed design information including calculations and design sketches.
+ Liaise with CAD Technician for production of drawings.
+ Prepare technical reports.
+ Send design information to external parties.
+ Formulate the project specifications for construction.
+ Attend site during construction phase if necessary to ensure construction is in accordance with specifications/drawings.
+ Carry out risk assessments and provision of design information for Health and Safety file.
+ General Accountabilities :
+ Complete timesheets on a daily basis, allocating time correctly against job numbers.
+ Understand the basis of fees and costs.
+ Understand own contribution and impact on projects and develop an awareness of the implications for projects through the project management system.
+ Work within the financial and programme constraints and consider financial implications in producing design options.
+ Contribute and provide information for fee proposals.
Gain awareness and understanding of the AECOM design procedures, their importance and their application to projects.
Understand and implement the Company’s Health and Safety Policy
+ Experience of working on a variety of projects as a Design Engineer with some experience of dealing directly with clients.
+ Experience of electrical design in railway systems or building services.
+ Experience of working on major and minor rail infrastructure or building services projects.
+ Good understanding of the BS7671
+ Experienced in the use of rail standards, such as Network Rail, Railway Group Standards as well as the relevant British Standards and Eurocodes.
+ Understanding of Health and Safety including CDM
+ Good standard of written English and communication.
• HNC, BSc, BEng or MEng degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
• Chartered Engineer (or working towards) and member of a professional institution IET/CIBSE
