The Sustainability Technologies team is looking for a highly qualified engineer with significant experience in the design, analysis, measurement or control of electromagnetic systems. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the physical basis of electrical engineering principles and intimate knowledge of the dynamics present in tightly coupled magnetic, thermal, and mechanical systems. State variables may include broad ranges of temperature, pressure, voltage, current, displacement, and velocity.

• Leverage past experience to perform parametric analysis of magnet system design variables
• Design permanent, resistive and/or superconducting magnetic field sources for manufacturability
• Apply knowledge of magnetic field sensing technology to produce accurate field maps
• Develop data acquisition and control system for active field cancellation and degaussing system
• Implement electromagnetic interference expertise to achieve environmental compatibility
• Create analytical and finite element models of tightly coupled multi-physical systems
• Use theoretical knowledge to verify numerical formulations and design validation experiments
• Assess new concepts, write project proposals, and develop technologies for future products
• Support laboratory planning, perform trade studies, complete project cost estimates
• Lead area-specific projects and support adjacency opportunities
• Translate customer needs into device and product functions

• US. Citizenship in order to obtain and maintain a government security clearance
• Minimum Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field
• At least 5 years of electromagnetic system development experience

• PhD or Masters degree
• Track record of fundamental physical investigations that utilize electromagnetic systems
• Demonstrated experience in the design, construction or operation of electromagnetic apparatus
• Practice implementing weak form partial differential equations for type-II superconductor models
• Experience with analytical and numerical methods to evaluate electromagnetic field homogeneity
• Familiarity with High Performance Computing concepts and experience scripting job schedulers for performing complex simulations and calculations
• Knowledge of optimization theory using standard symbolic and/or numerical toolkits
• Proficiency in computer aided modeling software for boundary representation solid modeling
• Exposure to the design and/or operation of closed and open cryogenic systems
• Strong organizational, leadership and negotiation skills with customers and colleagues
• Additional experience beyond the minimum required
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
