Job Details

Encana’s Technical Services Group has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineer. You will be responsible for supporting the US Division with facilities capital projects and daily operations related to power infrastructure. Work includes incident investigations, utility coordination, reliability improvements for existing infrastructure and supporting field electrical technicians with repeat bad actors in the distribution system. 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Execution of overhead distribution extension projects to supply power to new facilities which includes design, equipment procurement and construction support.   Work with Electrical Construction Coordinator to determine powerline routing for new builds. 
  • manage Encana’s load requests to west Texas Transmission & Distribution Service Providers (TDSP) from initial request to completion of the load addition
  • support operations with overhead distribution coordination, including fuse selection, recloser control relay configurations, sectionalizer settings, etc.
  • troubleshoot outage events by review of recorded event data and working with TDSP and Encana Electrical Coordinator
  • identify and execute base capital projects to improve reliability of the overhead distribution system.  Projects include reconductor/rebuild, voltage conversions, coordination improvements, etc.
  • work closely with Operations Electrical Coordinator to review equipment failures by conducting root cause failure analysis and implementing appropriate corrective changes
  • review electrical billing for opportunities to reduce LOE cost by reducing peak demand and improve power factor
  • represent Encana interests, and make recommendations on various technical codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
  • support capital projects by executing small projects and managing larger projects through outside engineering contractors
  • perform economic analysis, budgeting support and justification for capital and efficiency projects
  • direct and manage arc flash hazard analysis studies and implement recommendations at field locations

 

Qualifications:

 

  • 5-10 years of current experience in oil and gas and/or electrical utility industry.  Experience in power distribution system is preferred.
  • Engineering degree in electrical discipline
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration in the power discipline is preferred
  • knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC)
  • broad technical and commercial knowledge of electrical power systems including overhead distribution and/or oil and gas facilities power distribution
  • knowledge of Medium and Low voltage power systems
  • experienced user of power system modeling software (ETAP or SKM, PLSCAD)
  • basic knowledge of control for electrical distribution infrastructure
  • networking skills for working with internal management, internal engineering, maintenance and operations staff, equipment vendors, and engineering and construction contractors
  • innovative with a strong desire to learn.  High commitment to multi-discipline team work, and a positive attitude
  • high performer that delivers on requirements efficiently and effectively
  • ability to work in a fast paced, agile environment
  • periodic trips to remote field locations will be required for project and operations support and various meetings and training functions
  • currently eligible or able to obtain clearance to work in the United States
  • must have a valid Driver’s License.
  • travel to Midland 25% or more
  • based in Denver
