Job Details

Orion is NASA's new exploration spacecraft, designed to carry astronauts to destinations in deep space. Working as part of the Orion Loads and Structural Dynamics team, the Structural Dynamics Engineer, will be responsible for conducting loads and dynamics analyses and tests to support Orion Program major milestones including the Exploration Mission 1 lunar flight test, the Ascent Abort 2 flight test, and the Exploration Mission 2 manned lunar flight test. Specific responsibilities to be worked under supervision of senior dynamics engineers will include: developing mathematical models (finite element models and statistical energy models); performing vibro acoustic analyses; performing pyrotechnic shock analysis and testing; developing dynamic test inputs, instrumentation/data acquisition requirements, executing dynamic tests, and interpreting/correlating test data with structural dynamics models and simulations; producing structural dynamics engineering reports, technical memos, and data packages to support management, customer, and peer reviews; presenting structural dynamics analysis results to management, customer, and external customer consultants

Basic Qualifications
Must have familiarity with dynamic testing (Vibration, Shock, Acoustics). Must have experience analyzing dynamic data (acceleration, acoustic pressure). Analysis includes signal processing of digital time data into frequency domain data (power spectra, acoustic spectra, shock spectra) using tools such as MATLAB. Familiarity with supplier vibration laboratories and conducting testing at those supplier facilities. Experience performing finite element analysis and statistical energy analysis using tools such as NASTRAN and WAVE 6

Desired skills
Proficiency using MATLAB, NASTRAN, WAVE 6. Experience performing dynamic testing (Vibration, Shock, Acoustics)
