The MOW Electronics Maintenance Division is seeking a Director, Emerging Technologies to manage a team of engineers and technicians, and with broad scope for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative, will be accountable for the management, integration, development and acceptance of specialized test equipment, procedures and associated tools (as contract deliverables) for post-warranty support of new technologies into the day to day repair and support operations of the Central Electronics Shop (CES). The technologies being implemented by NYCT are included in projects such as New Fare Payment System, New Bus Radio System, R188/R179/R211 Car Procurement, Communications Based Train Control Signal (CBTC) and Public Address/Customer Information Systems.  Assumes the role of technical liaison, representing CES at various program manager and vendor meetings and design reviews, assisting in the direction of the process of transference of new methods/tools to the CES workforce.  This position is located at the Department of Subways Central Electronics Shop in Woodside, Queens, NY.

Education and Experience Requirements

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in electronics, electrical engineering, or a closely related field of study, and eight (8) years of full-time related experience, of which five (5) years must have been a managerial/supervisory/administrative capacity; or

A satisfactory combination of education and experience.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Floor management and experience in a research and development section of a large technical enterprise with the ability to coordinate, schedule and prioritize activities to meet deadlines.
  • Proven experience in the implementation of a new technology and the creation of new and innovative policies, programs and procedures.
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art test equipment designs and familiarity with system design and development platforms used on industrial automation used within various operating systems (Microsoft Windows, UNIX, Linux, VxWorks, RTOS, Embedded and/or Mac OS X). 
  • Proven ability to interpret electrical circuit designs, creating, updating and reviewing test procedures and drawings. 
  • Strong PC skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Office suite products, Open Source Office products, Schematic/PCB Board/ 

Desired Skills continued:

  • Diagramming such as OrCad Capture and Visio. 
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with both technical and business staff.
