The College of Engineering at The Ohio State University invitesapplications for the position of Director of the ElectroScience Laboratory(ESL). We welcome outstanding applicants whose leadership skills align with or complement the research strengths of ESL, as well as candidates who can lead the laboratory in expanding its research breadth. As Director of the ElectroScience Laboratory, the candidate will be the chiefexecutive and technical officer for the Laboratory. The Director reports to the Dean of the College ofEngineering, and provides leadership and strategic direction for ESL and leads the laboratory in the formulation and growth oflarge research programs. The successful candidate will provide leadership in vision setting and strategic planning, enhance thepublic profile of the Laboratory and external relations with government, industry, and alumni, and stimulate and mentor faculty, senior researchers, andstudents. The Director is also responsible for financial and operational leadership, and sets a culture ofexcellence, diversity and inclusion throughout the Laboratory. The ElectroScience Laboratory: ESL is an internationally recognized center for the study of microwave andoptical devices and systems for sensing, communications, and other applications. ESL employs 150 faculty, researchers, graduate students, and staff, and conducts more than $11 million in research annually.ESL is located in two adjacent buildings totaling more than 60,000 square feet of laboratory and work space that housesworld-class facilities ( ESL research projects span theelectromagnetic spectrum from DC to gamma rays in applications that range from national defense to NASA tohealth care to consumer electronics. ESL has strategic industrial partnerships that include Fortune 50 companies toearly stage startups, with dedicated space to house partner companies. The laboratory also has significant funding from domesticand international government agencies.


Qualifications: We seek individuals who are visionary leaders, innovators, and mentors, and who have demonstrated a record of technical leadership and collaboration in industry or government laboratory R&D projects and/or in an academic environment. Candidates must have demonstrated past leadership in obtaining major researchfunding from competitive federal and/or industry grants. A simultaneous appointment as a faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering will be considered for those candidates having an outstanding and sustained record of academic contributions and student mentoring.
