Job Details

Codes, tests, debugs, documents, and installs new programs/technologies of a complex nature in order to perform various transmission system analyses. Prepare data for input into Power Flow Programs. Learn the principals and conduct power flow, transient stability, post-transient power flow and short-circuit duty analyses of the transmission grid. Document results of the analysis.

 

 

 

  • Utilize power industry specific and established conventional development tools, guidelines and conventions including but not limited to GE PSLF, Visual Studio, ASP.NET, SQL Server, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and C#/VB.NET in order to create custom software applications to perform transmission system analyses

  • Gather transmission data, such as transmission line characteristics, transformer nameplate data for developing system impedance data for input into the GE PSLF program.

  • Develop internal WECC databases for use in power flow, stability and short-circuit study work.

  • Conduct power flow analyses of the interconnected transmission grid, and document results of analyses

  • Assist in providing Member Systems with required technical studies

  • Provide technical support to System Dispatch, Engineering, Operations & Maintenance and other departments as needed.

  • Prepare project justifications for projects proposed for inclusion into the Long Range Plan and assist Engineering in the preparation of the Construction Work Plan.

 

 

 

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related area or currently enrolled and working toward a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related area

  • Three to five years’ experience as a developer

  • Three to five years’ experience with C#.NET/VB.NET

  • Three to five years’ experience working with SQL Server 2005/2008 or similar

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2

  • Programming Methodologies: Solid understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) and computer science foundations, such as memory management and low-level algorithm performance

  • Programming Languages: Choice of C#, C#.net, .NET, HTML, Java, JavaScript, PHP, XML, ASP, ASP.NET, AJAX, CSS, MS Visual Basic.NET

  • Databases: Choice of MS SQL, Oracle, Flat files, Access, MySQL, PLSQL, SQLite

  • Server Software: Choice of SQL Server 2000/2005/2008/2008 R2, SQL Server Reporting Services(SSRS), SQL Server Analysis Services(SSAS), SQL Server Integration Services(SSIS), Oracle 9g/10g/11g, Team Foundation Server, Nagios, System Center Configuration Manager. Ability to design and optimize SQL Server 2008 stored procedures

  • Desktop Software: Choice of MS Visual Studio, SQL Server Management Studio, MS Expression Studio, TextPad, Notepad++, MS Office, Adobe CS, Microsoft Reports, MS LogParser, MS Virtual PC, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, Oracle SQL Developer

  • Knowledge and understanding of the .NET 3.5/4.0 Framework, WCF Web Services, and ADO.NET

  • Adhere to Software implementation best practices

  • Ability to adapt quickly to an existing, complex transmission planning environment

  • Ability to quickly learn new concepts and software is necessary

  • Ability and desire to learn or equivalent industry experience in the Electric Power Industry with emphasis in Power systems, such as transmission planning, forecasting of power delivery systems, substation/transmission design, etc.

  • Candidate should be a self-motivated, independent, detail oriented, responsible team-player and exhibit exceptional relationship management skills.

  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form in a formal or informal presentation setting to an audience or an individual.
