Job Details

A senior rotor system designer is responsible for the concept, preliminary, and detail layouts and drawings/models of new rotor head and control systems or significant modifications to existing products. This job requires the ability to coordinate with other organizations to develop design criteria and interfaces necessary for a successful product and will extend through the design and manufacturing phases to ground and flight test. The designer will be able to transform basic product requirement into a series of conceptual designs and successfully down-select into a preferred configuration for preliminary and detail development with emphasis on product safety, durability, weight control, and supportability. During detail development, the designer makes layouts of assemblies and details parts of rotor hubs, control systems, rotor head fairings, and associated sub-systems. Other responsibilities include checking completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.

Tools used to perform rotor system design and analytical tasks include 3-D modeling in CATIA V5 and finite element analysis using ANSYS Workbench and/or classical hand analysis methods for initial sizing

A minimum of a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering is required. Rotor System Design Engineers are responsible for all phases of helicopter rotor system design, including hubs, blade retention systems, pitch control systems, fixed controls interfaces, shafts, fairings, and their assemblies. Projects include new product development, production, and field technical support for all production programs. Sikorsky is seeking to expand these core competencies to meet growing demand for its new and production products

Basic Qualifications
BS in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, with experience in designing details and assemblies of rotor systems or similar mechanical components

Desired skills
Knowledge of CATIA V5 or similar 3D design package, working knowledge of precision component manufacturing, inspection, and testing techniques desired
