The University of Missouri (MU) invites nominations and applications for the Department Chair of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (EECS).

Responsibilities: The Department Chair is responsible for all aspects of the department. We seek a dynamic individual who will provide vision, leadership and guidance for academic and research programs; attract and recruit world-class faculty, high-caliber students and staff; develop resources to strengthen the long-term viability, efficiency, and effectiveness of the department's research and teaching programs; promote collaborative research within the department and across MU; administer the departmental budget; lead and support external development opportunities; be an advocate for the department; promote the visibility and enhance the reputation of the department at the national and international levels; create cooperation opportunities with industry partners; and mentor faculty at different stages of their career.

Required Qualifications: Qualifications and attributes for the successful candidate include an earned doctorate in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science or a closely-related field; a record of excellence in teaching, research and service; demonstrated effective leadership, management and communication with faculty, staff, students, and other administrators; commitment to diversity and inclusion as it applies to faculty, staff and students; familiar with national trends in undergraduate and graduate education; passionate about improving education for all students; knowledgeable about external funding priorities and opportunities; and a strong collaboration record and willingness to collaborate with others.

Preferred Qualifications: Prior administrative experience or leadership at successive levels of responsibility; a record in effectively managing a large budget, experience with external stakeholders at the state, federal and international levels; commitment to shared governance, collegiality, and continual professional development for faculty and staff; commitment to leading departmental discussions regarding departmental vision and strategic plans; desire to lead developmental activities and cultivate alumni and donor relations; and willingness to adopt a transparent, open-minded, respectful and approachable leadership style;

About MU and EECS Department: MU, the flagship institution in the University of Missouri System, has over 33,000 undergraduate and graduate students and is a member of the American Association of Universities. Located midway between St. Louis and Kansas City, Columbia is a vibrant small city consistently ranked among the top places to live in the United States.

The Dept. of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (EECS) (http://engineering.missouri.edu/eecs/) at MU was recently formed to integrate the strengths in the Dept. of Electrical & Computer Engineering and the Dept. of Computer Science. The EECS department currently has 36 tenured or tenure-track faculty members. The MU College of Engineering is currently recruiting for 40-50 new faculty in big data analytics, sustainability, and biomedical innovations. Many of the new faculty recruits are expected to be in the EECS department. The department offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs through the doctoral level in electrical engineering, computer engineering, and computer science.

The department is home to numerous research centers, signature programs, and laboratories. Major research strength areas include big data analytics, pattern recognition and machine learning, bioinformatics and medical informatics, cyber security, high-performance computing, high-throughput plant genomics, image processing and graphics, geospatial intelligence, eldercare and rehabilitation technology, nano/micro systems, physical and power electronics, energy conversion and electromechanics, signal processing, computer vision and robotics.
