Coordinator of Engineering Science

The College of Science at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for the position of Coordinator of Engineering Science at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in support of its newly established Engineering Science B.S. program housed within the Department of Physics and Engineering Science, beginning in August 2018.

We are seeking an engineer who will be responsible for developing the curriculum and future direction of the Engineering Science program at CCU, including seeking ABET accreditation. Applicants with backgrounds in mechanical engineering are preferred. The program’s primary focus is the education of undergraduates, and the coordinator should be a teacher-scholar and establish a research agenda that incorporates students. The university’s Smith Science building is undergoing a $6.5 million renovation that will include over 1,600 square feet of shared research space for new faculty members in the Engineering Science program.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a related discipline with a strong background in physics preferred.

Coastal Carolina University is a public comprehensive liberal arts institution located just nine miles from the Atlantic coast resort of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Coastal enrolls more than 10,000 students from 45 states and 58 nations. The University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the baccalaureate and selective master's degrees of national and/or regional significance in the arts and sciences, business, humanities, education, and health and human services, a specialist degree in educational leadership, and a Ph.D. degree in Marine Science.

Interested candidates should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three professional references, electronically at http://jobs.coastal.edu. One reference must be able to address the applicant's teaching ability. Candidates must also submit a two-page vision of the undergraduate Engineering Science program, a two-page research agenda that emphasizes the potential for undergraduate participation, a two-page statement of teaching philosophy that describes specifics of what a typical class session would look like to an outside observer. Screening of applications will begin November 27, 2017. Inquiries about the position should be directed to Dr. Louis Rubbo by email to lrubbo@coastal.edu.

Coastal Carolina University is an EO/AA employer.
