Job Highlights:

The Tactical Communications, Transport, and Sensors Department is seeking a dedicated communications / networking engineer to help support the Army's Tactical Network and Radio programs. This person will be assist in supporting several projects, both in and outside Army Labs at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD, and will include specification, design, analysis and/or testing of different network architectures, technologies, and systems for MITRE customers.

Key Functions:

This position is an exciting opportunity for upcoming graduates to provide communications/network engineering support, along with other MITRE engineers, to multiple customers across the Army. Candidates will work on a wide range of engineering challenges, including areas such as:

  • Design and implementation of multi-tiered tactical networks

  • Research and development of test plans/procedures for system characterization

  • Testing of new radio/cellular/LTE components

  • Prototyping of new technologies for data capture and analysis

  • Software Defined Radios

In addition, the student will continue to assist in establishing a Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP) lab at the MITRE site, in order to build expertise in the following areas:

  • Cognitive Radios

  • Dynamic Spectrum Access

  • Frequency Sensing Waveforms

  • Interference Mitigation sis and/or testing of different network architectures, technologies, and systems for MITRE customers.


Required Qualifications:


Completed Bachelors in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Physics, or a similar field; currently working towards graduate degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Physics, or a similar field, with a focus on communications, networking, or other relevant technical disciplines. The candidate should have a solid working knowledge of one or more of the following areas:

  •  Communications systems

  •  Networking

  •  Signal Processing

  • Antenna Analysis

  • RF Systems

  • Modeling and Simulation

  • Hardware Engineering specialties (e.g. FPGA/DSP design, RF technology, antenna systems)

  • Systems Engineering

This working knowledge should have been gained from both relevant academic experience as well as associated work as an intern, co-op or something similar. The candidate should also have:


  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment

  • Good verbal and written communication skills


    Preferred Qualifications:


    Desirable to already have a current security clearance.

    * Students need to be currently enrolled and will be enrolled the following semester in a full-time in an accredited degree-seeking university program.*

    **70% of MITREs full-time jobs require US government security clearances, therefore many internships require that the candidates be clearable.**
