Job Responsibilities:

The Integrated Grid Focus Area aims to develop technologies for clean energy generation (e.g., solar), energy storage (batteries), distributed energy system (Solid Oxide Fuel Cells, SOFCs), and nano grid demonstration (architecture, software, power electronics, device integration, energy management, etc.). The successful candidate at the Chief Scientist level is expected to:

  1. Build and lead a technically strong, multidisciplinary team.
  2. Lead the effort in building a state-of-the-art electronics lab with key functions of control software development, chip application, and hardware integration.
  3. Analyze global technology and market trend in clean energy industry. Identify emerging new technologies. Develop the technology roadmap for the Energy Internet Focus Area. Propose projects that could deliver and make impact in next few years.
  4. Supervise project managers for the daily operation of the Energy Internet team. Manage R&D projects targeting agreed on timeline, milestones, and budget.
  5. Build pilot scale units and supervise operation.
  6. Work closely with our Beijing site expert panel to keep the goal aligned and results delivered in time.
  7. Build strong relationship with customers. Identify collaboration opportunities with leading university research groups and government agencies.
  8. Mentor staff and promote their individual growth and development.

Requirements

  1. Advanced degree in Engineering, Physics, Math, etc. For Chief Scientist level, 10+ years industrial R&D experience is required. For lower level positions, less experience is required.

  2. The candidate should have at least one of the technical background in: energy control & management, battery SOC or generation/load forecasting, smart sensing IC architecture design and application, real time simulation or hardware-in-the-loop, complex system analytical background (dissipative structure / Chaotic theory / Fractal Geometry ).
  3. The candidate should have direct R&D experience in Internet+ energy field such as power conditioning system (PCS), battery management system (BMS), energy storage, System-on-Chip and System-in-Package based IC design, renewable energy, big data for energy, active distribution network, smart grid, power-to-gas design for energy application. Experience in the product-driven R&D environment with hands-on capability to understand and solve real engineering or scientific problems in the field.
  4. Excellent publication or patent records with successful commercialization experience.
  5. Have global vision and strategy for the clean energy technologies of 21st century. Passionate for R&D in new field such as Energy internet, which is the area integrating many disciplines from Internet of things / smart grid to hydrogen storage / power to gas etc.
  6. Able to manage or work in a fast-paced & fast-growing innovation team with many skill-sets that could complement or challenge each other from market-driven perspective.
  7. Eager to learn new technology / culture / thought process with team-spirit.
  8. Strong Project management skills or capability with proactive and self-driven attitude.
