The College of Engineering aTennesseTecUniversity inviteapplicationfor the position of Chairperson of the Department of Electrical and ComputeEngineeringThiis a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position to begin January 1, 2018.

Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate from an accredited institution in electrical or computer engineering, or a closely related field. Teaching experience, scholarly accomplishments, and sustained externally funded research activities to qualify for an appointment to the rank of tenured full professor at Tech. Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with students, colleagues, staff and other on-and off-campus individuals. Ability to communicate effectively. Demonstrated good character, professional ethics, maturity of attitude, experience in teamwork and strong familiarity with relevant aspects of an ECE department.

Preferred Qualifications:  BS degree in EE, CmpE or equivalent. Administrative and management experience. Non-academic professional or industrial experience. Leadership experience.Relevant accreditation activity experience, professional society and public service experience.

Essential  Functions:    Provides  leadership  to  the  department  in  setting  and  achieving  realistic  goals  and objectives  that  fulfill  the  department’s mission  and  align  with  the  strategic  priorities  of  the  College  and University. Serves as an effective channel of communication between the Department and Dean of Engineering, and University administration. Manages the financial matters of the department,and is responsible for the maintenance of the integrity of the academic programs. Manages department resources, administers faculty and staff evaluations, and is responsible  for  the  general  welfare  of the department.  Represents ECE faculty in meetings with college and university administration, and departmental advisory board. Promotes professional development of faculty,staff and students. Maintains appropriate levels of teaching, graduate student advising, scholarly and research activities and participation in professional and public service activities. Maintains and builds strong relationships with industry and community stakeholders.  Partners with college development officer in fundraising and alumni engagement.

About the Department and the College: The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has 13 full- time faculty members and approximately 450 undergraduate and 55 graduate students. The Department offers academic programs leading to BSEE (EAC/ABET accredited), BSCmpE (EAC/ABET accredited), MSECE and Ph.D. degrees. Three state-supported Centers of Excellence within the College of Engineering support and promote the research of faculty and graduate students. About the University:  Tennessee Tech has approximately 10,600 students and is located in the town of Cookeville, with a population of 30,000. Cookeville is in the center of the scenic Upper Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee, on Interstate 40, about 80 miles east of Nashville,75 miles west of Oak Ridge and 100 miles west of Knoxville.
