Job Details

The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) is launching a new initiative in Quantitative Biomedicine and has two openings for tenure-track Assistant Professors. This cluster hire currently involves the areas of brain imaging and sensing & modulation of the central nervous system, with an emphasis on advanced computational methods and applications. Located on IIT’s main campus in the city of Chicago, the BME Department has currently 13 full-time faculty members (11 tenured/tenure-track and 2 senior lecturers), approximately 180 undergraduate students and 50 doctoral and master’s students. Our research and educational activities are enhanced through linkages with major medical facilities (e.g., Rush University Medical Center, University of Chicago, and Edward J. Hines VA Hospital) and national laboratories (e.g., Argonne National Laboratory) in the greater Chicago area, as well as other national and international institutions. The positions will include an appointment within the Pritzker Institute of Biomedical Science and Engineering through which interdisciplinary centers devoted to a broad range of biomedical research areas have been established. For more information about the BME Department, please visit our website engineering.iit.edu/bme.

Minimum qualifications include: an earned doctorate in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Medical Physics, or related science and engineering disciplines; outstanding academic credentials; and the ability to teach effectively at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. By integrating their activities with existing BME and IIT initiatives and interdisciplinary collaborations, successful applicants will be expected to develop and sustain an independent research program, demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, and further develop our distinctive educational programs. The anticipated start date is Fall of 2017. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

To apply, applicants should email bme_search@iit.edu (or call 312-567-5324 if clarifications are needed). A cover letter with current contact information, detailed curriculum vitae, statements for research and teaching plans, and the names of at least three references should be provided. Review of applications will begin on March 1st, 2017 and will continue until the appropriate candidates are selected.

IIT is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. Women and underrepresented minorities are encouraged to apply.
