The MITRE Corporations Center for Advanced Aviation System Development (CAASD) has an immediate opening for a Lead Aviation Safety Systems Engineer to be part of a dynamic team of professionals working to improve the safety of the United States (US) National Airspace System (NAS) working closely with both US and International industry and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) partners. We are looking to expand our team with someone with demonstrated technical excellence in aviation safety research and data analysis, particularly in the area of human factors, plus excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Key Functions:
The successful candidate will be part of a team conducting analysis of current airline training practices, pilot qualifications, and knowledge and skills related to flight path management on order to identify potential factors that may lead to aviation accidents or incidents. The successful candidate will also contribute to various projects applying innovative analysis techniques and knowledge of human factors to uncover anomalous characteristics and precursors to new and emerging aviation safety risks.


 


 


 


 


 


 


 


 


 


 


 


 












Required Qualifications:
These skills and abilities are highly desired:
- Data collection, manipulation, and analysis.
- Excellent statistical and mathematical skills.
- Experience in applying Human Factors engineering to various aviation models.
- Ability to work and communicate in a team environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing requirements.


Preferred Qualifications:
These technical skills are used often in our work:
- Extensive use of Excel and other MS Office programs
- Understanding of FAA Part 121 regulations and Safety Alerts For Operators (SAFOs)
- Past experience working in the aviation domain: airport operation, air traffic control, airlines, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:
MS and 7 years related experience.
