Job Details

You will provide exceptional leadership in research in mechatronics, with a strong capability to build relationships across research groups and with industry.  You will be able to contribute to one or more of the key areas of robotics, medical technologies, or advanced manufacturing.  You will also provide leadership in teaching mechatronics and building strength in mechatronics in both the mechanical engineering and mechatronics majors within the Bachelor of Engineering.

You will  play a collaborative role within the School, drawing on the outstanding base of research in the Faculty, including 5 Laureate Fellows and significant strength in the Australian Centre for Robotic Vision. 

You will be part of the Mechanical Systems and Asset Management within the School of Chemistry, Physics and Mechanical Engineering, and will contribute to developing research in areas one or more of the University Research Strengths in Biomedical and Health Technologies, Computational modelling and simulation scienceor Materials Science and Engineering.

This position reports to the Head of School of Chemistry, Physics & Mechanical Engineering for supervision, workload management and for Performance Planning and Review (PPR).

 

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Lead and contribute to mechanical engineering and mechatronics teaching drawing on real world experience
  2. Conduct outstanding and world-class research that advances the goals of SEF and QUT
  3. Lead the development of Industry partnerships and relationships
  4. Provide senior leadership in academic development and direction of research that advances the goals of the School, and the Faculty
  5. Provide leadership to the development of the research culture of the School and in the supervision of research students and support staff
  6. Implementing and administering University policy within the Faculty with respect to equitable access to education and workplace health and safety.

 

Requirements

  1. Completion of a doctoral qualification in Mechanical Engineering or closely related fields or equivalent accreditation or standing.
  2. Record of outstanding leadership and ability to capitalise on opportunities within a changing research/teaching/disciplinary context.
  3. Outstanding record or research / scholarship and of world-class leadership in research / scholarship, as demonstrated by publications and research income.
  4. Proven record of excellence and leadership in teaching and learning including scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
  5. Significant evidence of clarity as a strategic thinker, able to be adaptive and future oriented in a way that provides real impact.
