We conduct research and education in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Information Technology, Space, Fusion and Plasma Physics. The field of electrical and electronic engineering at KTH is internationally recognized and places high in international rankings. The school is responsible for bachelor and master programs in Electrical Engineering which are closely linked to our research fields. 450 people work together in an international environment in eight departments and in the Dean’s office.

Electric Machines and Drives.

Subject description

The subject area includes development of methods and techniques for analysis and design of electrical machines for applications in drive systems as well as in power generation. This includes development of models that include electromagnetic, mechanical and thermal phenomena.


The employment includes research and teaching in the field, as well as possible management and administrative assignments within the school. Teaching includes primarily course responsibility for courses in the field of electrical machines, as well as supervision of students at first-cycle and second-cycle. In addition to own research and teaching, the applicant is expected to establish an independent research program in the field of research. The applicant is also expected to co-operate actively with industry and society at large, as well as contribute to the development of the department, school and KTH as a whole.


Those qualified for appointment as an associate professor are persons who have:

  1. been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve , and
  2. demonstrated teaching expertise.


Grounds of assessment

The assessment criteria for appointment as an associate professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointments procedure, appendix 2, apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is the applicant’s

  • Research expertise in the subject field, proven through high quality publications in internationally renowned journals and conferences.
  • Documented ability to initiate and develop collaborations in research and education with industrial and academic partners

Of second highest importance is the applicant’s

  • Teaching skills in the subject field, proven through documented experiences of having developed, organized and executed educational activities at first-cycle and second-cycle.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to pursue third-stream activities and also provide information about research and development work

It is also important that the applicant has

  • Administrative skills and expertise to develop and lead activities and staff. This includes knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.
  • Sufficient language skills to be able to teach in Swedish in the subject field
