Job Details

A program in Biological Engineering has recently been established at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, and is seeking experienced faculty at the associate professor level or above. Students in the program are working toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Engineering. This program is a collaboration of the College of Engineering and Technology with the College of Arts and Sciences. Biological Engineering is an emerging discipline at the intersection of physical sciences, life sciences and engineering, with applications and career pathways in medicine, pharmaceuticals, environmental sustainability, tissue engineering, biomaterials, bioprocessing, energy and food.

Candidates are being sought with a Ph.D. or equivalent in Biological Engineering or a closely related field, and experience appropriate for associate professor level or higher. The position may be filled as early as January 2018. The selected candidate will contribute to curriculum and course development, and will be integral in providing motivation for students as they become capable of addressing a wide spectrum of biological engineering challenges with the goal of improving quality of life. A central drive of the program is innovative engineering via cellular intervention. The primary curricular topics include biotechnology, bioprocess control, and the environment.

The convergence of interdisciplinary subject matter and our mission to prepare students for career success through experiential learning makes Wentworth the ideal place to foster this new and innovative program. It is the expectation that a successful candidate will embrace our interdisciplinary project based approach in their goal of educating the next generation of engineers. Faculty will be expected to teach undergraduate biological engineering classes, to engage in scholarly activity, and to perform service to the institute (including academic advising and serving on committees) as well as the profession. The Institute invites applicants from a broad spectrum – academia, industry and government agencies.

The successful candidates must hold a doctorate in Biological Engineering or a closely related engineering field, have a proven track record in teaching, accomplishments in scholarly work, and have a strong commitment to entrepreneurial engineering education.
