The Computer Science Department and the School of Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) at St. Mary’s University of San Antonio, a private, Catholic university, invites nominations and applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science ( beginning in the fall semester of 2018. Candidates will also be considered for an administrative appointment as Department Chair.


The department offers four undergraduate degrees in Computer Science. In addition the department offers master’s programs in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, and Cybersecurity as well as many certificates. The department has 4 full-time faculty members and approximately 110 undergraduate and graduate students. The department is located within the School of Science, Engineering and Technology ( which has a total of six departments, about 950 undergraduate and graduate students, and 73 faculty and staff members. The school has seen significant growth over the past six years and is poised to continue its growth consistent with the SET Vision and the University’s strategic plan Gateway: A Vision for St. Mary’s University.


The department seeks faculty candidates with interests in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, data science, information assurance, mobile computing, or other emerging areas in computer science along with the ability to teach computer science courses across the department. This position requires a Ph.D. in computer science or a closely-related discipline and a commitment to excellence in teaching, research, program development and evaluation, teamwork, and service.


In addition, the successful department chair candidate will demonstrate the communication and interpersonal skills needed to work with a diverse group of individuals, to manage the department and realize its growth and development goals, to lead the department and its programs through ABET accreditation and other certification processes, and to build strong relationships with the student body, feeder schools, alumni, and industry. The candidate will possess strong leadership and administrative capabilities and be able to articulate a vision for computer science education in the 21st century.
