The Department of Computer Science and Information Systems at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Associate or Full Professor in Software Engineering. The position will be available starting Fall 2018.  CSUSM is located on a beautiful 304-acre hillside 15 miles east of the ocean and in the San Diego County, an area known for its growing biotechnology, defense and cyber industry. It was recently awarded a nearly $6 million grant under the Department of Education’s Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) STEM program to develop innovative degree programs in software engineering and electrical engineering. The Department currently offers a B.S. in Computer Science, an option of Computer Information Systems in the B.S. in Computer Science, an M.S. in Computer Science, and a Professional Science Master’s degree in Cybersecurity.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: An earned Ph.D. in Computer Science or related fields, with a focus on Software Engineering. Candidates must have demonstrated success in Software Engineering related teaching, curriculum development, and research. Prior leadership experience in performance review and promotion is required. In addition, the candidate must be able to communicate effectively and work cooperatively in an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. 

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working in a collective bargaining environment; Leadership in commercial and/or government software development; Active participation in professional societies such as Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, IEEE, etc; Demonstrated effectiveness in research-based instructional practices, curriculum development, program assessment, partnership building, and student support for a diverse populations, especially those from groups underrepresented in STEM.

DUTIES: The successful candidate will lead the development of curriculum and the design of instructional labs for the new Software Engineering program, teach related undergraduate Software Engineering courses, effectively adopt strategies proven successful for students traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields, and work with industry and community partners to create and supervise capstone projects. This person is expected to develop a strong research program demonstrated by externally funded research and peer-reviewed publications.  In addition, the candidate will contribute in activities serving the department, college, university, and community.
