Associate/Assistant Professor in Internet of Things (IoT) Security

 DTU Compute, Section for Embedded Systems Engineering, invites applications for an appointment as Assistant/Associate Professor within Internet of Things Security. The position is available from September 2017 or according to mutual agreement.

Our department DTU Compute is an internationally unique academic environment spanning the science disciplines mathematics, statistics and computer science. At the same time, we are an engineering department covering informatics and communication technologies (ICT) in their broadest sense. Finally, we play a major role in addressing the societal challenges of the digital society where ICT is a part of every industry, service, and human endeavour.

Computational models and methods play an increasingly decisive role in the engineering sciences, in industrial production, in planning and economics, and in the health care sector. DTU Compute also plays a central role in education at all levels of the engineering programmes at DTU - both in terms of our scientific disciplines and our didactic innovation. Responsibilities and tasks

With this position, we wants to strengthen our capabilities in teaching, research, and innovation within the areas of Internet of Things (IoT) security in relation to, among others, modelling, analyzing and evaluating security of networked computer systems.

Research in the Section for Embedded Systems Engineering (ESE) focuses on a broad range of topics within embedded and distributed systems where close interaction between hardware and software components as well as between the system and its environment, including human users, are necessary and where issues such as cost, timeliness, dependability, usability, security, trust, energy consumption, reconfigurability and adaptability are often competing requirements.

Building on sound theoretical foundations, the section has a long tradition of empirical research and research often includes development of research prototypes and demonstrators. The section seeks to expand its expertise and capabilities in the area of Internet of Things (IoT) security in order to expand existing collaboration with local industry and develop new areas of collaboration with national and international industry and research groups.

As an assistant/associate professor you will be responsible for building and expanding the section’s expertise, research and innovation in IoT security, including:

  • Security and privacy of IoT systems
  • Dependable IoT Systems and Networks
  • Practical aspects of IoT security (techniques and tools)
  • Security for pervasive computing, including wireless sensor networks and Fog computing
  • Energy efficiency and security for embedded IoT devices
  • Dissemination of research challenges and results to the broader public

You will – in addition to your own research – be expected to contribute to existing research projects and themes within the section and the department. You will also be affiliated to the recently formed DTU Center for Internet-of-Things.

You will work together with other members of the section to develop and strengthen our current course offerings in computer and network security. Moreover, you are expected to contribute to teaching undergraduate courses in information security.

At DTU Compute, we value knowledge sharing and cross functionality. Therefore, you are expected to cooperate and be eager to build relations with colleagues in the department and with other departments of DTU.

You are expected to participate in departmental teaching at all levels so you should value visionary and meaningful communication. The teaching will cover Bachelor-, Master- and PhD-level courses. Bachelor courses are taught in Danish, other courses in English. Non-Danish speakers are not disqualified for the role, but will be trained in Danish in order to participate in teaching on all levels.

 Qualifications

Candidates for an

  • Assistant Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent)
  • Associate Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an Assistant Professorship and should document didactic/pedagogic training.  

 

You must be able to work academically on an international level within the research fields mentioned above, and must also be able to work across the disciplines within the section and establish new research collaborations. Good communication skills are required. You must have a strong background in computer and network security, and must be capable of teaching network security, system security, and related topics at the bachelor, master, and PhD levels.

 Assessment

In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to

  • experience in teaching and education
  • scientific production and research potential at an international level
  • the ability to promote and utilize research results
  • an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience
  • the ability to contribute to development of internal and external cooperation

 For the specific position consideration will also be given to:

 Empirical research including development of research prototypes and demonstrators

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with industry

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

 An assistant professor will after a maximum of 4 years transfer to a permanent position as associate professor provided that the employee is recommended for assessment and is deemed qualified. More information can be found here: Career paths at DTU.
