                      Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity

St. Bonaventure University (SBU) invites applications for a tenure track position as Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity, with the position beginning as early as January 2018. Cybersecurity at St. Bonaventure is a new, interdisciplinary program, combining the faculty and facility resources of SBU as well as Hilbert College in Hamburg, NY.  The program is poised for significant growth and plans to become a designated Center of Academic Excellence by the National Security Agency. 

The faculty will work within the cybersecurity program to support the University’s mission as it relates to this specific field.  The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching within the Cybersecurity educational domain as well as providing assistance in the management and development of program curricula, program credentialing, activities, and reputation. The successful candidate is also expected to be a voice for cybersecurity both on-campus and off as the program becomes established.  The ability to help with internships and co-curricular activities is also prized.  Industry experience will be highly valued.


Successful candidate will:

-         Teach full load of courses (as per SBU policies)

-         Help obtain grants and secure funds for the program

-         Engage in cross faculty activities

-         Help with extracurricular cybersecurity activities

-         Help create a vibrant cybersecurity community

-         Help develop internship partnerships

-         Participate in university-wide affairs

Minimum qualifications:

-         Seven years of industry experience

-         Five years of experience in teaching both undergraduate and graduate cybersecurity courses

-         Ability to teach and develop courses for an undergraduate & graduate cybersecurity program

-         Ability to teach computer science courses

-         Ability to relate well to undergraduates in a teaching situation

-         Established connections with the IT and cybersecurity community

-         Experience in using cybersecurity tools and technologies

-         Practical experience in advanced cryptography

-         Experience in incident response

-         Experience in cloud security

-         Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills

Desired qualifications:

-         At least a Master’s degree in a relevant field

-         Familiarity with cybersecurity curricula

-         Experience with cybersecurity competitions or other co-curricular activities

-         Experience in teaching cloud security
