Job Details

The Computer Science Department at Utah State University is seeking applications to fill four Assistant Professor faculty positions, starting Spring or Fall Semester 2018. These are nine-month, 100% academic year tenure-track positions. Application reviews will begin in October 2017. Applicants should have a strong record of prior research, show significant potential for attracting external research funding, and have excellent communication skills. The department is interested in strengthening its focus in Computer Security, Human Computer Interaction, Software Engineering, and Data Science, but strong applicants in other areas may be considered.

 Applicants will be expected to create a research program that is consistently productive, sustainable, and nationally recognized for excellence. Applicants will also be expected to contribute effectively to the instructional mission of the university; the normal teaching load in the Computer Science Department is three semester-length courses per year, with a reduced teaching load in the first year. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate effectiveness in service to the operations and governance of the University, to their professional societies, or to the outreach and extension mission of the University.

  2. One page research statement (research experience and interests, short-term research agenda, long-term research agenda, and collaboration opportunities with other faculty members)
  3. One page teaching statement (teaching philosophy, teaching experience, a list of courses capable of teaching, and a list of courses desired to teach)
  4. A current curriculum vitae (including if applicable proposals written and funded, publications and their impact factor or ranking, and service)
  5. The names and email addresses of three references. (The references will be sent an email from USU, asking them to upload a letter of recommendation on your behalf).

The Computer Science Department has approximately 650 undergraduate majors, 53 MS, 20 PhD students, 12 tenure-track faculty, and 3 non-tenure track faculty. Applicants must have completed a PhD in computer science by the time of appointment. The position requires demonstrated research success, a significant potential for attracting external research funding, excellence in teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, the ability to supervise student research, and excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
