The Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the field of Aerospace Engineering, with an emphasis on space technology.  Candidates must hold a doctorate in an appropriate field and are expected to establish an outstanding, funded research program as well as to contribute fully to both undergraduate and graduate instruction. Applicants at the level of Assistant Professor are preferred but appointments at other levels will also be considered. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

We seek an outstanding individual engaged in computational, theoretical, and/or experimental research in spacecraft engineering.  The ideal candidate will conduct research in one or more of the following areas: spacecraft systems engineering, human spaceflight systems, propulsion, global navigation satellite systems (such as GPS), spacecraft structural dynamics and/or mechanics, and celestial mechanics.  A key objective of this search is to build stronger connections between the field of Aerospace Engineering and the departments of Astronomy and Earth & Atmospheric Sciences.  Another is to bring in faculty who complement, rather than duplicate, the department’s existing strengths.  Qualified candidates in all related areas are encouraged to apply.

Cornell University fosters interdisciplinary research and an atmosphere of cooperation through its Centers and Field system.  Both in research and teaching, faculty in Aerospace Engineering have outstanding opportunities to interact with faculty in basic and applied research from other departments (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, Applied Engineering Physics, Astronomy, and Earth & Atmospheric Sciences) and with a number of unique programs including the Carl Sagan Institute, the Center for Radiophysics and Space Research, the Space Science and Plasma Physics Research Group, the Cornell Nanoscale Science and Technology Facility, the Cornell Center for Materials Research, the Cornell High-Energy Synchrotron Source, the Space Systems Design Studio, and the Weill Cornell Medical College.

The Sibley School and the College of Engineering at Cornell embrace diversity and seek candidates who can foster a welcoming climate for all students.  Cornell University seeks to meet the needs of dual career couples, has a Dual Career program, and is a member of the Upstate New York Higher Education Recruitment Consortium to assist with dual career searches.

Please submit an application on line at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/9582Applications should include the cover sheet, a complete resume, statements of research interests and teaching experience (please limit each statement to two pages), and up to three publications.  All applications received by November 1, 2017 will receive full consideration this academic year.  Applications will be evaluated on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
