Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Electrical & Computer Engineering

 

The College of Engineering at the University of Georgia (UGA) is seeking applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position with an expected start date of August 1, 2018 or earlier. While the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering has particular needs in the areas of Robotics, Smart Grids, Nano Electronics and Wireless/RF Communications, strong candidates with research expertise in areas complimentary to Electrical or Computer Engineering will also be given consideration.

The successful applicant will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers and educators in the recently established School of Electrical & Computer Engineering (http://engineering.uga.edu/schools/sece), which provides undergraduate degree programs in both Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Computer Systems Engineering and Graduate programs with an emphasis in Electrical & Computer Engineering. Beyond supporting the Electrical & Computer Engineering educational programs, faculty in the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering are actively engaged in interdisciplinary centers, institutes and research clusters that draw on the full range of engineering and other academic disciplines to form collaborative research teams that are primed to address the major engineering challenges of modern society.

The responsibilities of the successful candidate will be to: (1) establish an outstanding research program recognized both nationally and internationally, (2) foster and establish collaborations and partnerships within and outside the College of Engineering as well as industry, (3) exhibit a strong commitment to teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and (4) compete successfully for extramural funding to support research and a companion graduate training program. The candidate will have broad latitude to develop a research program that focuses on technological and materials innovations, along with advances in the basic knowledge of sustainability to benefit society.


 

The College of Engineering, formed on July 1, 2012, is building a vibrant academic environment that fosters engineering education in a liberal arts environment and research that addresses critical societal needs. Requirements

Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline, and an excellent research record in an area broadly associated with Electrical & Computer Engineering. Applicants with expertise in research areas related to robotics, smart grids (power systems or power electronics), nanoscale materials and devices for electronic and photonic applications, or wireless/RF communications are of particular interest. Along with a strong publication record and demonstrated success in proposal writing, a record exhibiting leadership traits, effective communication, and ability to develop innovative collaborative programs is preferred.
