The Photonics Initiative of the Graduate Center’s Advanced Science Research Center in Manhattan, NY, invites applications for full-time, tenure-track faculty members at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank.

We seek outstanding scientists with strong records of significant research accomplishments in the fields of: nanophotonics, plasmonics, nano-optics, quantum optics, optomechanics, terahertz technology, ultrafast spectroscopy, nonlinear optics, electromagnetic theory and applications, metamaterials, bio-photonics, and other fields broadly related to photonics and electromagnetics.

Faculty members will perform teaching, research and mentoring duties in the area(s) of expertise, share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions. We encourage applications from candidates with innovative ideas, open to interdisciplinary approaches and with a demonstrated use of a wide range of experimental, theoretical and computational approaches to tackle fundamental questions in photonics.

The Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC), is the Graduate Center’s University-wide venture that elevates CUNY’s legacy of scientific research and education through initiatives in five distinctive, but increasingly interconnected disciplines: environmental sciences, nanoscience, neuroscience, photonics, and structural biology. The ASRC is designed to promote a unique, interdisciplinary research culture with researchers from each of the initiatives working side by side in the ASRC’s core facilities, sharing equipment that is among the most advanced available. Qualifications:
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

A preferred candidate should have a Ph.D. degree in a photonics related area, demonstrated achievements in research scholarship, and a commitment to conducting high-level scientific research adopting interdisciplinary approaches. Individuals considered for these positions are expected to serve a major role in shaping an outstanding research mission at the ASRC, while fulfilling the educational mission of the New York City Public University System at CUNY.
