Job Description:

The Opportunity

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a professional, innovative and detailed individual as an Application Engineer - Automation providing technical and commissioning support throughout the northeast region of the US. This engineering position is to be located in either Lewis Center, OH, or King of Prussia, PA. If you are looking for an opportunity to utilize your background in communication protocols for power systems (IEC-61850, DNP3, Modbus), SCADA practices, enjoy regional travel and provide excellent customer service to utilities, industrial and engineering firms, then this may be the position for you!

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is a global manufacturer that provides products and services for the protection, control, automation, integration, communications and metering of electric power systems for industrial and utility markets (HV/MV/LV) and we have an immediate need for an Application Engineer - Automation.

Application Engineer - Automation

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and improve knowledge of power systems, software, integration and automation, industrial controls, PLCs, industry protocols (IEC-61850, DNP, Modbus), Ethernet systems, protocol analyzers, and industry SCADA practices, and all related SEL products.
  • Help customers apply SEL products through visits, demonstrations, training courses and telephone contact.
  • Contribute to product specifications, application and testing software, and literature.
  • Participate in SEL marketing and sales activities and industry technical meetings and conferences.
  • Teach in training schools for customers and SEL personnel.
  • Maintain customer database for customer application and quality information.
  • Continuously identify, measure, follow, and improve marketing, sales, and engineering quality procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, equivalent degree, or equivalent work experience
  • 3 years experience in power systems, industry practices, and software, integration and automation, industrial controls, PLCs, industry protocols (IEC-61850, DNP, Modbus), Ethernet systems, protocol analyzers, and industry SCADA practices
  • Completion of SEL Engineering Development Program or equivalent work experience
  • Proven technical training, speaking, writing, and customer service skills
  • Ability to direct daily work activities with general supervision
  • Ability to travel
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Negative drug test result(s)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering, with emphasis in software, integration and automation, industrial controls, PLCs, industry protocols (IEC-61850, DNP, Modbus), Ethernet systems, protocol analyzers, and industry SCADA practices
  • Published application guides
  • Experience using SEL products
