Description: Summary of Description:  

GTRI is seeking a highly motivated Android applications developer with the ability to design, develop and support mission-critical systems on commercial and/or military platforms.  The successful candidate will perform as an engineer, software architect, and technical leader for a mid-sized team of software engineers executing ongoing sponsored programs in the field of mobile applications development. 

Basic Responsibilities 

  • Android application development
  • Software architecture design
  • Technical team leadership

Core competencies for this position:  

  • Designing and developing advanced applications for Android platforms
  • Unit-testing code for robustness, including edge cases, usability, and general reliability
  • Bug fixing and improving application performance
  • Ability to provide technical leadership to a mid-sized software team
  • Knowledge and ability to implement software best practices
  • Experience with modern software development processes (e.g. agile)
  • Works well individually or in a group setting
  • Ability to effectively work under pressure and time constraints
  • Ability to self-motivate and derive specific requirements from general tasking descriptions 
  • Ability to assimilate and apply new job-related information in a timely manner

Research Engineer / Research Scientist I

This is the initial rank held by research personnel who have at least a bachelor's degree and who will be performing on a professional level.

Research Engineer / Researach Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science
  • Relevant Experience in Android application development
    • >5 years industry experience
    • >2 years in a technical leadership position
  • US Citizenship
  • DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain a clearance within six months after your employment with Georgia Tech Research Institute begins is required

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science
  • Have published Android apps
  • Technical knowledge of mobile application architectures
  • Well-versed in object oriented design
  • Existing DoD Secret clearance
  • DoD contract work experience
