Job Details

MITRE is seeking an Agile Design Engineer to join a dynamic and multi-disciplined technical organization in designing large federal IT systems. MITRE seeks agile practitioners and design professionals with various expertise (e.g. agile methodologies, UX / UI, service and product design, etc.) to work with a team of experienced professionals to lead system design and related design management efforts.

The position entails working in the agile problem space for projects, programs, and enterprise systems that are highly adaptive and iteratively developed. Candidates are expected to use visual and design methods to facilitate exploration of current solutions and product opportunities, definition of future products and solutions, and support requirement and software development efforts.

Clarify and support the development of Government Sponsors business strategies through the development of product roadmaps and other visual documents.
Lead the facilitation and/or support of service and product design efforts for Government sponsors to formularize a product vision and roadmap.
Clarify and support the implementation of design methods and management practices in an Agile environment.
Develop conceptual diagrams, process flows, assessment tools, concept of operations, transition roadmaps, journey maps, storyboards, and facilitate agreement on scope and priorities.
Perform structured research of user communities, market solutions, and current sponsor product offerings to define user-centric products for major Government programs and projects.
Train and support MITRE technical communities on design practices.











Bachelors Degree in a technical or design major (e.g., computer science, interaction design, systems engineering, information systems, etc.)

Product management and development experience; ability to connect business, technology, and marketing principles in the design of technical solutions.
Familiarity and experience in the implementation of modern design practices and methodologies: design thinking, service design, UX strategies, modular design, agile requirements, set-based pattern design, etc.
Demonstrated front-end interface and SW language experience. Portfolio examples are encouraged to be brought/made available at an interview. (Some of the preferred languages include: HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Ajax, JQuery, etc.)
Ability to design and deliver high-fidelity prototypes in fast-paced environments. Examples are encouraged to be brought/made available at an interview.
Ability to facilitate business customers and technical teams from problem identification through system prototyping and user testing.
Experience working with agile development methodologies (e.g., Scrum, SAFe, Feature and Test-Driven Development, Lean, Lean Startup, etc.)
Strong communication skills in helping both non-technical and technical audiences understand and implement a product solution design.
Familiarity with modern web and SW design standards including recent experience with commercial enterprise web and software technologie.
Leadership of product, design, and engineering teams in the development of technical solutions.
Experience creating user experience strategies, information architectures, and interfaces for large software projects and programs.
Experience using requirements and collaboration tools (Rational Requirements Composer (RRC), JIRA, etc.)
Contribution and affiliation with academic and professional design, agile, systems engineering, and software communities
Demonstrated experience leading new major system development efforts through product vision and design; leading by design

Applicant Selected for this position will be subject to a government Security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Only US citizens are eligible for a Security clearance. For this position, MITRE will consider only applicants with Security clearances or applicants who are eligible for Security clearances 

Preferred

MS in technical or design major (e.g., computer science, interaction design, systems engineering, information systems, etc.)


Experience in prototyping and automating models
Knowledge of emergent trends including Human Centered Design, Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive science 
Preference is given to candidates with active DoD clearance
