Job Description: This position is for a mid level researcher role in the ATAS/Aerospace and Acoustics Technologies Division (AATD).  Primary roles and responsibilities include acoustic data aqusition and analysis, prototype design and fabrication, and modeling and simulation.  Example tasks include conducting aeroacoustic testing (in the field, in onsite wind tunnel and anechoic facilities), sensing payload design and integration (onto UAV and launch vehicle platforms), and using Matlab for indepth acoustic data analysis, sensor response characterization, and signal characterization.  Working knowledge in basic signal processing, aeromechanical concepts (with specific focus on UAV and rocket propulsion systems), data acqusition and sensing instrumentation operation is necessary.  Experience in Solidworks mechanical design and general aerospace field testing also desirable.  

 

 

 

Education:

  • Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist II
  • A Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related area and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related area

Experience:

  • 3-7 years of relevant professional or graduate experience

Computer Skills Required:

  • Matlab
  • Solidworks
  • Labview
  • Microsoft Office

AutoCAD, National Instruments Data Acquisition Software preferred

 

Engineering Skills Required:

  • Acoustic testing, instrumentation setup, data acqusition and analysis
  • Proficiency with data acquisition systems and related sensing instrumentation 
  • UAV and launch vehicle payload design
  • Applied knowledge of general signal processing techniques
  • General mechanical design (i.e., CAD modeling, test article design, etc) and prototyping
  • General field testing operations for data collection

Familiarity with anechoic chamber and/or wind tunnel testing methodology, MEMs operation, and rocket propulsion systems (solid rocket propellant and liquid engines) preferred.

 

 

 

Other: Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.  Active clearance personnel preferred.
