Job Description: This position is for an entry level researcher role in the ATAS/Aerospace and Acoustics Technologies Division (AATD).  Primary roles expected of the engineer will include acoustic data acquisition, testing, and analysis, system engineering on UAV and rocket-based systems, small arms firing acoustic characterization, and design and fabrication of test articles and integrated military subsystems.  The ideal candidate should be capable of operating acoustics facilities onsite and in the field, and conducting analysis of the acquired data.  This includes static and wind tunnel flight simulation facilities, hot and cold flow jet facilities, and acoustic field testing such as acquisition of UAV/missile/live voice data.  Familiarity with UAV systems and payload integration, rocketry and missile hardware, and fielded military infrastructure such as analog and digital HAWK missile launcher is desired.  The engineer will be expected to design test articles and fixtures including any necessary software (Matlab or Labview VI), fabricate, and integrate or use the resulting prototype for testing.  Additional expectations of the position include test and analysis of MEMs acoustic sensors and wearable sensing prototypes. 

 

 

 

Education:

Bachelor’s in related technical field; Master’s preferred

 

Experience:

Computer Skills Required:

  • Matlab
  • Solidworks
  • Labview
  • Microsoft Office

AutoCAD, NI/DTS Data Acquisition Software preferred

 

Engineering Skills Required:

  • Acoustic testing (field/facilities) and data analysis
  • Proficiency with data acquisition systems and related instrumentation (such as function generators, mixers, acoustic drivers/speakers, microphones)
  • UAV Payload design
  • General mechanical design (i.e., CAD modeling, test article design, etc)
  • Machine shop experience
  • Rapid prototyping (i.e., 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC lathe operation)

Familiarity with anechoic chamber testing methodology, MEMs operation, and scale model rocket assembly/general operation preferred.

 

 

 

Other: Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens, with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.
