Job Details

We are interested in highly motivated candidates with skills in human computer interaction (especially related to accessibility) combined with some or all of the following: assistive technology, collaboration, human-machine teams, social media, and/or decision support systems.  These skills would be employed to solve critical technological problems for our Government sponsors and enhance the user experience in Government systems and experimental prototypes.


Key Functions:

  • Assist MITRE and government sponsors in solving accessibility and usability challenges, including enterprise remediation efforts and integrating commercial accessibility solutions into government environments

  • Perform evaluation and testing: accessibility testing, usability testing, heuristic evaluation, and other HCI methods

  • Conduct market surveys

  • Work independently and on a team to conduct accessibility/usability evaluations and develop accessible alternatives to problems

  • Design wireframes and mockups for prototypes or to integrate commercial accessibility solutions into prototype software

  • Employ user centered design/user experience engineering: understand people's current work practices and user needs, gather requirements, lead the development of prototype concepts, and iterate on design with stakeholders

  • Participate in working groups to discuss usability/accessibility issues and solutions

  • Make recommendations for acquiring or implementing usable and accessible decision support, collaboration, and assistive technologies

  • Apply knowledge of the state of the art for decision support systems, collaboration tools, and assistive technology

  • Understand rapid prototyping techniques and agile methodologies

  • Document work, produce and brief presentations, and write technical reports and papers for publication

Requirement Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in accessibility, human factors, human computer interaction, computer science, or a related field

  • Two+ years of experience desired

  • Basic understanding of applying WCAG or Section 508 compliance, accessible development practices

  • User centered design, usability, and evaluation experience

  • Experience in software engineering or testing, assistive technology, and accessibility testing or coding

  • Desire to increase accessibility and usability knowledge
