Job Details

We are interested in highly motivated candidates with skills in software development, accessibility and assistive technology, collaboration, social software, and decision support systems. These skills would be employed to solve critical technological problems for our Government sponsors and enhance the user experience in Government systems and experimental prototypes.


The successful candidate will:

  • Develop and apply advanced approaches and technologies to solve critical technological problems within the context of collaboration, information sharing, and accessibility

  • Use software engineering best practices to develop prototypes for customers, integrate commercial accessibility solutions or develop new solutions, and customize COTS or open source software

  • Assist MITRE and government sponsors in solving accessibility challenges, including enterprise remediation efforts and integrating commercial accessibility solutions into a government environment

  • Work independently and on a team to conduct accessibility/usability evaluations, remediate accessibility issues, and develop accessible alternatives to problems

  • Develop new solutions to accessibility issues, including scripts to fix accessibility issues
Key Functions:

  • Understand users needs and how they affect software development

  • Make recommendations for acquiring or implementing collaboration and accessibility solutions

  • Participate in working groups to discuss accessibility issues and solutions

  • Make recommendations for acquiring or implementing decision support, collaboration, and assistive technologies

  • Apply knowledge of the state of the art for decision support systems, collaboration tools, and assistive technology

  • Evaluation and test: accessibility testing, usability testing, heuristic evaluation, and other HCI methods

  • Conduct market surveys

  • Work independently and on a team to conduct accessibility/usability evaluations and develop accessible alternatives to problems

  • Document work, produce and brief presentations, and write technical reports and papers for publication


  • BS or MS in computer science, systems engineering, or a related field

  • Two+ years of experience

  • Basic understanding of WCAG or Section 508 compliance, accessible development practices, applying accessibility to agile development, and assistive technology

  • Software design, development, and/or usability testing experience
The successful candidate will either:

  • Have a TS clearance, experience in software engineering or testing, and a desire to increase accessibility knowledge; or

  • Have a background in assistive technology, accessibility testing or coding, and have the ability to get a TS clearance.
