As part of the initial phase of a major investment programme, Cardiff University seeks to appoint two new faculty positions ranging from lecturer to reader in the general area of compound semiconductors devices and systems with direct applications to sensing, communication or medical diagnostics.  Topical areas of interest include nanostructured optoelectronics, quantum technologies, metamaterials,  co-integration.  These new positions support a larger effort forming the Institute for Compound Semiconductors (ICS) at Cardiff University. The ICS forms part of Cardiff University’s £300m investment in new research and innovation centres, and its potential is already recognised by the Welsh and UK governments, who have invested over £29m towards its creation.  The ICS will be a unique facility in Europe, based in a new building, and equipped with state-of-the art fabrication and characterisation facilities including a full 8” fabrication line as well as a related small area process capability, epitaxy, material and device characterisation. It will enable novel research and development along with strong engagement with industry.  This will position Cardiff to become the UK and European leader in translational research in Compound Semiconductors.

You will deliver high-quality and research-led teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and contribute to the research record of the School through commitment to carrying out research leading to the publishing of work in high-quality journals. Moreover, you will achieve recognisable outputs in the areas of teaching, research, and industrial collaboration, commensurate with School’s norms, contribute to the enhancement of the national and international profile of the School and achieve recognisable impact upon the academic, commercial, and professional communities.

These posts are full-time and open ended.


£40523 - £46924 per annum (Grade 7) - Lecturer
£48,327 – £55,998 per annum (Grade 8) - Senior Lecturer
£57,674 - £59,400 per annum (Grade 8) - Reader
